Definition of Thermal Desorption • Used to treat soils and dewatered sludges • Uses heat to vaporize organic contaminants from soil or sludge in the primary chamber • Organic contaminants transferred from soil to off-gas stream • Before the off-gas stream is released to the atmosphere it is treated either to: • destroy contaminants; or • collect contaminants for offsite treatment
