Observation Volunteer Role • Background • Project partnership • Hospital to Home • NHS Shared Purpose • Observational framework developed • Pilot in November 2012 • Hospitals & Wards involved • North Tyneside General – 3,2,9,5 • Wansbeck General Hospital – 8,7,6 • Hexham General Hospital – 3 • Visit timetable • Two visits per ward (minimum)
Observation Volunteer Role • Observation Session (4 hrs approx) • 1/ Introduced to Ward Manager or Ward Sister • 2/ Tour of Ward • Initial impressions e.g. calm, busy, tidy, clean • Dementia friendly e.g. text signs, colour scheme • 3/ Observation of Bays (1½ - 2hrs) • 4/ Observation team discuss findings (20 minutes) • Teams observation notes collected • 5/ Ward staff feedback session(s) (20 minutes) • Age UK staff member leads feedback • Report produced by Hospital to Home Manager and issued to Ward Manager with week
