  2. What is SIMS Common Platform 3 Common Platform 3 is a suite of software using a new database system (SQL)

  3. Why is this happening? • PLASC in 2004 will require it • SQL is more resilient • Development effort will be focused on CP3 modules • SIMS will stop supporting the old modules

  4. When will it all happen? • Already up and running: Attendance/Lesson Monitor Profiles System Manager Exams Organiser • Coming soon – Spring 2003: Assessment 6 SIMS.NET

  5. And the deadline? • October 2003 – because of PLASC upgrade • SIMS are publicly committed to this timetable

  6. What this means for YOU A Tool Kit for Planning: 1. Understand and take responsibility for your system 2. Check your hardware 3. Tidy your data 4. Think about training 5. When to move

  7. Installing Common Platform 3 School tasks: • Prepare workstations • Identify and prepare MS SQL Database Server (install Infrastructure)

  8. Installing Common Platform 3 Installation procedures: • Install the new modules • Run Integrator • Set up users • Run Attendance Data Converter • Schedule Integrator and backup

  9. Installing Common Platform 3 • All SIMS users are entitled to ONE FREE VISIT prior to installation • Either: Chargeable installation visit • Or: Do-It-Yourself

  10. Chargeable Installation • Cannot be done by Patch Engineer • Will take time • Cannot all be done in the holidays • Some must be done on Monday or Friday! • £65 for first hour + £40 per hour • Member of school staff familiar with the system must be on site

  11. Do-It-Yourself • Booklets on CD ROM • It will take you time • The Helpline cannot talk you through • Capita and ICT Service are authorised • If it goes wrong, rescue will be chargeable

  12. What to do NOW • Read the documentation • Check your hardware • Check all your data with Data Check Utility • Think about the database server machine • Tell us when you think you are ready
