Sports in Italy The Italian racing heritage is almost as long as its history : in almost all sports, both individual and team, Italy can boast of many successes. However, almost all the victories in team sports are a male prerogative, except for volleyball,water polo, and fencing. Italy's national sporting color is blue, borrowed from the heraldic emblem of the house of Savoy, the ruling dynasty from 1861 to 1946.
Football is the most followed sport in Italy.
