LANGUAGE PROMOTION • Presented dramas in 3 official provincial languages – Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa • Artscape High School Drama Festival • Up to 30 Schools from throughout the province participate • Artscape New Writing Programme (ANWP) • (launched in 2001, the ANWP has developed into a dynamo of original South African drama) • Training and support programmes for new playwrights • Hosted 1st isiXhosa Festival together with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport – at Gugu S’thebe Centre in Langa Annual Report – 2007
ARTSCAPE DRAMA PROGRAMME • Stage readings of new plays • Co – productions with independent drama producers • Spring Drama Season • Consists purely of new South African Works, many of them by first-time playwrights • Produces productions in 3 official languages • Use previously disadvantaged individuals as assistant directors • Appoints a wide range of previously disadvantaged individuals in technical, stage management, and directorial positions • National and international touring • International Festival • Dublin, Ireland – actresses won the top award, best performance by an actress, two years running Annual Report – 2007
