  1. Continuing your persuasive essayDirections for Tues, May 15.

  2. Improve your intro paragraph • 1 – Re-read what you have. What should you change to improve your word choice or fluency or both? • Add a list of your supporting reasons to your intro. This can happen as part of your thesis statement, or you can add a new sentence. By the end of your intro, your reader should know the problem you are addressing, your thesis/solution, and the three supporting reasons you will cover.

  3. Improve your first supporting paragraph • Check the opening of this paragraph. Make sure it includes a phrase or sentence that signals that this is the first of your supporting reasons. For example, “One reason why SJGS should…” or “The first reason why SJGS should…” or “One way to address…”

  4. Continue improving your first supporting argument • Check this paragraph for the strength of your supporting reason. Do you have any FACTS or NUMBERS? EXPERT QUOTES? TESTIMONY from everyday people? • If you already have one or some of these things, did you cite your source? If you don’t have any, do your best to include some!

  5. Continue improving your first supporting argument • Read over your paragraph when you think it’s done. Where can you improve word choice or fluency?

  6. Now move on to your next supporting argument • Be sure to start this paragraph with a signal to your reader that you are moving on to a new reason. For ex: “Another reason why SJGS should…” or “A second reason why SJGS should…” or “In addition to….” etc.
