CERN, – 17th September 2014 On Going Strands Measurementsat CERN of the 0.85 mm RRP conductor for the QXF magnet B. Bordini, A. Ballarino, L. Oberli CERN/LARP Video-Meeting
Billets and Heat Treatment • Campaign of strand measurements on Billets 15914 and 15915 (reduced Tin) • Heat Treatment: 48 hrs at 210 °C, 48 hrs at 400 °C, 50 hrs at 665 °C • Samples from these billets were already measured after having been reacted for 50 hrs at640 °C Study the impact of a more aggressive heat treatment (The new reference Heat Treatment for the 0.85 mm RRP ?) On Going Strands Measurements at CERN – B. Bordini
Samples • 16 Ic samples including round wires, rolled wires (15%, 20 %) extracted wires from cable 113 (cable to be used in a coil) • The critical current measurements will be finished tomorrow; they were performed either: in the field range 15 T-12 T at 4.3 K or; in the field range 12 T-10 T at 4.3 K and 1.9 K • 52 RRR samples (round wires, rolled and extracted) • All the RRR samples will be measured in the “regular” way (along the whole length of the sample, about 10 cm); the extracted strands will have local RRR measurements • 4 mini-coil for magnetization measurements at variable temperature (2 samples already measured) On Going Strands Measurements at CERN – B.
