  2. 7 Years War • Britain and France are at war • Spain allies with France • Fight in the French and Indian War also called the Seven Years war • Britain will defeat France • In 1763 the Treaty of Paris is signed

Treaty of Paris • France and Spain will cede, or officially give, territory to Britain • France gives up Canada and all land east of the Mississippi • Spain gives up Florida • In a separate Treaty Spain gained New Orleans and French territory west of the Mississippi • French Threat is gone • Main powers are Spain and Britain

  7. Effect • Government approved Rubi’s recommendations • Tejanos- Texas settlers of Spanish decent were forced to move off their land • People from east Texas withdrew to San Antonio • Once in San Antonio they were unhappy • Finally they were allowed to return east

  8. Eastward Bound • Antonio Gil Ybarbo led the group east • They eventually settled in the town of Nacogdoches • Settled near the friendly Tejas Indians • They prospered in this area and the town became a main gateway for people and goods entering Texas from Louisiana

Indian Policy • Began to trade more with the Indians instead of converting them • Athanase de Mazieres led the new Texas Indian policy • During the 1700s he was able to establish peace with several groups but dies in 1779 • But the Spanish and Comanche signed a peace treaty • At Soledad Creek the Spanish and their Indian allies won a major victory over the Apache
