Rotary School Channapatna • Established in 1991 by Rotary Channapatna • Classes only up to 7th standard. • Paucity of Funds Stunted Growth • Rotary Bangalore Cantonment (RBC) provided financial assistance and Manages the day –to- day operations since Apr.2011. • RBC is also involved in building the necessary infrastructure for the future. • RBC helped school obtain approval from Government of Karnataka to start a high school, up to 10th standard. Rotary School Channapatna The journey thus far… • Number of students increased from 76 to 135 , number of teachers increased from 10 to 15.- Including appointment of a Headmaster. • Supported school with an average annual funding of Rs. 5.00 lakh for the past three years. • Organised fund raising Lucky Dip Scheme which netted Rs.3.95 Lakh. • Rotary School committee currently manages the school . • To increase the strength to 250 in the next two years. • Make the school financially self - sustaining • To attract talent from economically weaker section , launch a scholarship scheme through “Sponsor a Child program” • Training programs for teachers to improve effectiveness . • Better salary and recruitment of more qualified teachers. • Introduction of extracurricular activities -sports training , theatre workshops, cultural workshops, Computer training, Science education ,Yuva program etc. Road Ahead…
Lingarajapuram School • Oldest running project of RCBC. Midday meal started in 1987. • Discontinued from this year and handed over to Government agency. • Constructed additional Class Rooms • Provided Furniture ,Computers etc, • We Conduct Explorotaryum Science Project at RHL where many Schools participate Background

Helps in retaining Students. • Independence Day every year for RBC at school premises. • YUVA introduced in 2013-14 Distribution of free Uniforms, books, shoes, school bags etc. • Tailoring Classes under Modular Employment Scheme being conducted by Goodwill Internationalfor women of that area • Classes 1-10. Nelligudda • RCBC Involved in the area for 15 yearsin three villagesKakaramanahalli, MG Palya & Benikuppa • Low Cost Houses Built for over 100 Families. • Micro Credit Scheme .Around 20 SHG’s . Each between 15 to 20 Members. • Total disbursement 8.5 lakhs interest free. • Mainly used for buying and rearing of cattle, dairy related activities, kirana shops etc. • Rural Health & Community Centre built in 2005. Mainly used for Health Check ups and community functions. Background

Candles are being supplied to Balaji Candles. • Moulds costing Rs. 3000 to 5000 paid by RBC. • Tailoring classes being run for about 30 Ladies. • Micro Credit continues. • Toy Making with help from some Channapatna Entrepreneurs • Rural Medical Centre in Collaboration with Raja Rajeshwari Hospital. • Annexe of about 800 square feet to be built • Applied for Global Grant for provision of Solar Lights and Electricity, Toilet Facilities, Septic Tank and Water Supply System. • Enhancement of Corpus for Micro Credit. RBC @ Navjeevan Nilaya • Located on Varthur Road in the compound of Navjeevan Nilaya. • MALI foundation provided a hall in a well constructed building • RCBC started Tailoring classes in 2012. Background

Geriatric Care Givers Training • Steady rise in the population of older persons in India from 19.8 million in 1951 to 76 million in 2001 • No of 60+in India to increase to 100 million in 2013 and to 198 million in 2030. • Integrated Programme for Older Persons initiated by Dept. of Social Empowerment & Justice in 2008 • Professional caregiving currently not a well-defined concept. • Cultural norms changing along with traditional support systems. Need for the course
Geriatric Care Givers Training • Impart special training for caring of the elderly. • Designed in Collaboration with St Johns Hospital • In-home and assisted living caregivers, includes training in ethics, client’s rights, and elder abuse as well as training in emergency first aid, personal care and assistance with daily living tasks like mobility, bathing, and toileting. The entire course provides a comprehensive program of more than 240 hours of caregiver training. • Financial returns-from Rs 5,000/- to 12,000 (in Bangalore ) per month-depending on skills. • MOU with St Johns Hospital prepared. • Should Kick off Sometime in November. • Training will be imparted at RHL initially with the option of using other venues if response validates . • Hopeful of training up to 20 Persons initially. Kolar Nutrition Project • 50 Anganwadi centres across select villages of Malur taluk in Kolar district. • There are around 1,000 children identified with malnutrition in the area where the project will be implemented. • Activities to be implemented through Myrada’s Community Managed Resource Centres. • To identify children with malnutrition and introduce a “5 step” comprehensive package to track and manage their nutritional status. • To train select SHGs to produce and market a high protein high calorie nutrient mix using local ingredients for families with malnourished children. • To document, publicise and disseminate learning and advocate for expansion of this strategy in the ICDS program • Project period: 4 years Objectives Implementation Area
Capacity building for stakeholders and Anganwadi staff for 5 step comprehensive nutrition package • Systematic tracking of all malnutrition cases ( moderate and severe) • Tracking the children registered under this project Monthly counselling of mothers of malnourished children with individual diet charts • Production of nutrient rich foods for take home rations- one product for all groups. • Production of My- Nutri mix by selected SHG • Distribution to malnourished children • Establishing referrals and linkages with health, horticulture and other departments. • Total no. Of children – approximately – 5,000 • Moderate malnutrition – 1,000 children • Severe malnutrition - 200 • 50% reduction in prevalence of moderate and severe malnutrition and low birth weight infants. • Trained SHGs trained in managing a business enterprise to produce and distribute quality nutrients to the ICDS program. • 75% of Anganwadi following the comprehensive nutrition package in their centres.
