Overview • Technology in an AP classroom • Online activities/helpers/Websites • Language specific links • khedges@irvingisd.net PLEASE email me if you have any questions!!!
¡Bienvenidos! • Katie Hedges • Spanish 3, AP 4, AP 5 • Academy of Irving ISD
Technology in a LOTE classroom • Scanners • Microsoft Word • Microsoft Power Point • Microsoft Paint • Microsoft Front Page • Moviemaker
Why use technology? • Student can work on specific topics at his/her own pace. • Immediate feedback on most on-line practice sites. • Differentiated learning. • Different approach to language acquisition. • Internet available 24/7- students don’t have to rely on just teacher time in classroom.
Scanners • Scan in transparencies of the AP art that comes with our books. • Can be used for projects- in PowerPoint or Moviemaker.
Microsoft Word • Here is a way students can record themselves: • Open a Word document. • Choose INSERT, then OBJECT. • Scroll down to choose Wave Sound. • To record, click red button. • Will record for 60 seconds- can keep pushing red button for more time if necessary.
Power Point • Lots of uses for this program. • Some can be downloaded from the internet for use in class. • Teachers have created reviews for their classes with these. • I have students take screen shots of games they play on the internet.
Example of student score… they copy the screen and paste it on a power point slide…
Microsoft Paint • Student examples:
Front Page • You can create your own website with Microsoft Front Page. • Can post class assignments, links to helpful sites etc. • I can post examples of student work on the website as well as notes and videos.
Moviemaker • Easy to use tutorials can help teach the students how to use it. • Can be used for vocabulary, grammar, culture, history etc. • Students like it because they can personalize it. movie
Quia • EASY TO USE • $49 a year if you want to make your own exercises/quizzes- otherwise it’s free! • On-line activities, quizzes, surveys • Quizzes can be graded by the computer- • In the optional step labeled Import Questions, you can copy questions from other quizzes and activities. This is useful when you want to combine several quizzes—for instance, when creating a final exam. • Quiz results can be tracked by both student and teacher • Materials can be printed out for student use. • AP USE- vocabulary, verb practice
Learner.org • Free video!!! • Classroom practices- see other teachers in action using foreign language.
SEDL for LOTE • Professional Development classes you can take on-line- at your own pace. • Topics that pertain to LOTE teachers • Instructional scenarios • Free downloads to create rubrics, performance-based assessment etc.
Epals • Free! • Pen-pals from different countries • Website has technology ideas and projects for teachers • AP USE- kids would be able to practice the language and could share cultural similarities and differences with kids in other parts of the world.
www.schoolnotes.com • FREE • Teachers can use this to post links for their students. • http://www.schoolnotes.com/75038/hedgesspanish.html
Authentikdigital.com • New look with improved, user-friendly NAVIGATION • Introduction of REALIA to the Intermediate LRB • New CULTURAL CALENDAR with printable information on forthcoming events in the target-language countries • New WEEK IN REVIEW, an introduction to the most recent articles added to the Advanced Resource Bank • AP USE- this has a lot of authentic reading and exercises. This is a favorite of my students.
