Solar Wind Geothermal What is Alternative Energy?
Solar • Solar energy is powered by the sun. It is also a renewable source of energy. • Solar panels use this energy to create electricity.-
Advantages of Solar Energy • No pollution • Renewable • All purpose : heating, cooking, and lighting.
Disadvantages of Solar Energy • If there is no sun on a cloudy day, then there is no power. • Solar stations are very expensive.
Wind • Wind energy is wind. This is also a renewable source of energy. • Wind turbines are used to convert this energy into electricity.-
Advantages of Wind Energy • No pollution. • Renewable. • Stations can be made off shore as well as on land.
Disadvantages of Wind Energy • If there is no wind then there is no power • Turbines are very expensive
Geothermal • Geothermal energy is basically the heat from the earth. • It is mostly hot rocks under the ground that produce steam that powers turbines that creates electricity. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ajqiPe_9Ko
Advantages of Geothermal Energy • If used in the correct way then there is no pollution • Stations are self sufficient energy wise • The stations do not harm landscape as the stations are very small
Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy • If used in the incorrect way then can leave areas polluted as it may release harmful gases • Stations are prone to running out of steam
