RATIONALE: Rising Demands Across Higher Education and within Libraries • Environmental Changes • Increased external pressure for accountability in all areas of higher education • Growing user expectations for services, including quality and responsiveness • Regional accreditation requirements • “Competition” from other service and information providers • Budgetary Constraints • Campus-wide competition for diminishing resource • Budget dollars • Facilities and space availability • Heightened demands for affordable and accessible postsecondary education • Cost savings and/or reallocation requirements • Justifying our Existence • Fighting to remain relevant • Is our library accomplishing its goals and how well are we accomplishing them? if libraries do not assess themselves - the university administration will do it, with limited understanding and lacking perspective…. Susan Beck
Keys to Success • Expertise Allocated to Assessment Efforts • Data Collection and Management • Training and development: equipping staff with skills for success
