  1. SILICONE MOLDING Alex Gianos

  2. Silicone is heat resistant, rubber like, and an inert synthetic compound • Doesn’t stick to many sub straights • Low toxicity, thermal conductivity, and chemical reactivity • Ability to repel water • Does not support microbiological growth • Good electrical insulation • Uses: Sealants, adhesives, lubricants, medical applications, cookware and insulation Silicone Properties and Uses

  3. 1) Liquid injection molding(LIM)- most used • 2) Transfer molding- custom pieces, premixed and molded, easy for rapid production • 3) Insert molding- allows for molding plastics into pre molded objects or metals. Types of Silicone molding

  4. examples

  5. Threading • Clips • hinges • Holes • Springs • Undercuts • Simple • Complex • Foam • Reinforced • Filled • Flexable • Ridged • Polished • Hotstamped • Plated • Colored • Clear • Solid • Thick • Thin • Textured Capabilities

  6. Ejection system- injects the mold at high heat and pressure ( filled through suction or pushed through) • Material melts through frictional hear in machine • Clamping machine- pushes the parts together and forms the 3dimentional object from the mold 2 Systems

  7. Albright Technologies • Vestanic • Peterson Molding Enterprises • Sil-Pro • DarCoid Companies

  8. Medical devices are perfect for this because they can be disposed of easily • Extremely clean and sanitary • Degradable and recycled • Surgeries, metal tools with plastic grips, • 3 ways of molding allow for intricate or simple pieces. Endless possibilities
