Going To and At The Bus Stop • Walk, don’t run to the bus stop and use side walks. Students can easily fall. • Use crosswalks when crossing the street. Always look left, right, left before stepping onto the road. • Arrive 5 minutes before bus arrives and wait 3 steps back from the curb. No horseplaying at the stop. • Wait until the bus has stopped and the front door has opened completely before entering.
Loading at School or at Bus StopsStudents Should -- when loading • Stay out of the Danger Zone • No pushing or shoving • Show your Bus Pass • Use the handrail to prevent falls • Take your seat and stay in it • Seatbelts must be used always • Follow The 10 School Bus Rules
Unloading at School or at Bus StopsStudents Should -- when unloading • Stay seated until the bus has stopped completely • Take all your belongings • Walk carefully past others • No pushing or shoving • Use the handrail to prevent falls • Stay out of the Danger Zone • NEVER walk in Front or Behind the bus
Children must stayOUT oftheDANGER ZONE Danger Zone Facts • In front of and behind the bus are blind spots where drivers cannot see the children • The driver’s side of the bus exposes children to passing vehicles. REMEMBER: In Europe, traffic is not required to stop for Loading and Unloading school buses. • On the sides of the bus are the wheels and wheel wells- one of the most dangerous spots in the zone.
“The 10 School Bus Rules” • 1. Obey the driver or adult and be respectful. • 2. Enter & exit the bus safely and always show your bus pass. • 3. Stay properly seated and buckle up. • 4. Keep your hands, feet and other bodyparts to yourself. • 5. Do not throw things. • Put nothing out of the window. • Remain quiet and do not disturb the driver or others. • No profanity, smoking, prohibited items or vandalism. • Don’t eat, drink or Chew Gum on the Bus. • 10. Be Responsible, be Safe.
School-Wide Expectations • Act in a safe and healthy way. • Treat all property with respect. • Respect the rights and needs of others. • Take responsibility for learning. Judicious Discipline
What Should You Do? • Adults loitering at stops, or that ask you questions about who you are, where you live, or your school, or offering favors of any kind.
ANSWER • Do not provide strangers answers to any questions. • Make a descriptive note of the person, time, date and location and type of questions asked. • Report this to an adult !!!!
What Should You Do? • Boxes, packages, or cases are left • unattended at your bus stop
ANSWER • Do not pick-up or take anything found around the bus stop on the bus. Make a note of the time, date, location and any description of the items. • These items could seriously hurt anyone on the bus. • Report this to an adult !!!!!
What Should You Do? • If you see anything that looks unsafe, that doesn’t seem right or makes you afraid?
ANSWER • Students should tell the bus driver, the bus monitor, a teacher, or their parents • When something isn’t right, tell an adult
