2. Occupational Therapy This is the assessment and treatment of physical and psychiatric conditions. Occupational Therapists do specific, purposeful activity to prevent disability and promote independent function in all aspects of daily life.Occupational therapists work in hospital and various community settings and they may visit clients and their carers at home to monitor their progress.

3. Training Training normally consists of a three year course leading to a BSc in occupational therapy. There are also graduate entry schemes to a two year accelerated course which also lead to a formal qualification. Following this O.T.s are then able to apply for the necessary registration to work in the NHS or social services.

4. Registration for O.T.’s Just like with Physiotherapists O.T.’s must register with the HPC The Health Professions Council (HPC) is a regulatory body set up under the authority of Parliament to protect the public. It does this by maintaining a register for certain healthcare professions.They must meet the HPC’s standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health.

5. Students who successfully complete programmes which are approved by the HPC, are automatically eligible for registration. Once registered, practitioners are required to retain their names on the register, by paying an annual retention fee.
