What is an Invitation? -To the Christian An extended opportunity for confession of Christ or of sin Given either formally or informally by God’s people An opportunity to ensure one’s salvation
Jesus’ Invitation: “Come to Me…” • Who Does He Invite? • “…all who are weary and heavy-laden…” • Sin is Cruel (cf. Rom. 6:12, 16, 19, 21, 23) • Gives us mental anguish (Rom. 7:15-20) • Life is Tough • Why Does He Invite Them? • “…I will give you rest.” • Jesus Invites Those Who Recognize Their Weariness & Are Seeking Rest!
What Does Coming Entail? • “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me…” • What yoke? • Taking on the yoke of lifelong service to Him (cf. Matt. 16:24) • Learn What? • His Character – Peace, Humility, Sympathy • His Word - (Matt. 28:19f; Rev. 22:14, 17) • About Our Debt to Him
Why Should I Come? • “You will find rest for your souls.” • He is the Prince of Peace & offers peace to us. • “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” • We are yoked with Jesus • We are yoked with other believers
