Papers on the desks… • Teacher Webpage: This informational sheet lets you know what you can find on my webpage. • Letters: Read the letters from your students and feel free to write them back using the paper provided. • Homework Pass! • Multiplication Letter: Sample timed test from today & letter on our multiplication practice for the next few weeks.

  3. Parent Information Form… • Please visit my webpage and click on the Parent Information link to leave your most current contact information. • You can revisit this link if any of your information changes throughout the year.

  4. Reminders from the Office… • School starts at 8:25am. Students should not be here any earlier than 8:10am. Upon arrival, students will walk down the hallway to the blacktop and wait to be picked up by their teacher. No students in the hallway. • When dropping off and picking up students in the Drop Off Zone, please stay in your car and keep pulling forward. • Attendance is important! The school gets money for everyday a child is in class. Please get an Independent Study if you plan on being absent 5 or more days. Truancy letters will automatically be sent home through our attendance system. • Breakfast & Snacks are available for purchase during morning recess at 10am. Hot lunch is also available daily. Lunch menus are located on the school/district webpage. Money can be added to your child’s card online through our webpage or by dropping off money in the office in the mornings.

The Curriculum • Language Arts • 6 themes with 3-4 stories in each • Practice Workbook for Reading Strategies, Comprehension skills, Grammar, and Spelling. • Core Literature novels • Mathematics • Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying of Multi-digit numbers • Double digit Multiplication • Long Division • Decimals, and Fractions • Social Studies • CA Geography, Spanish Influence, Gold Rush, Transcontinental Railroad • Science • Magnetism & Electricity, Ecosystems & Biomes, Rocks & Minerals, Waves, Water & Ice

  7. Class Rules • Be courteous and respectful to others and their property. • Treat others the way you would like to be treated. • Always do your best work! • Have fun!

  8. Behavior Policy • I expect every student to do their best both in and out of the classroom. I place a huge emphasis on taking responsibility for one’s own actions and facing the consequences that may result. • When on task and ready to learn, students can earn “Free Time” Minutes to choose a fun activity on Friday afternoons. • Individual students can also earn tickets that can be used during weekly/monthly classroom auctions. • Disruptive students may have (but not limited to) the following consequences: • Owe time during morning/lunch recess • Fill out “think about it” sheets • Complete work in another classroom • Notes/emails/phone calls home • Sent to the office/ see Mrs. Scroggins

Homework • Daily Assignments: • Vocabulary: prefixes, suffixes, and root words • Math: assigned every night • Reading Lover’s Journal entries (weekly) • LA, Social Studies, Science, Writing: as correlated with classroom lessons • Nightly reading for 20-30 minutes • Student Planners • Students are to write in them EVERYDAY! • Check for missing assignment label! • Study Hall • Held during morning recess to complete missing homework/class work • Lunch Study Hall is also available to complete longer assignments • 100 % Homework Class Party for every 4 days of 100% HW! • Projects • Written assignment sheets are given out with every project. • Class time is given for most projects, the rest becomes homework. • Please help your students to not procrastinate!

Other Activities… • Fine Arts with Mrs. Perez:Thursday 9:15-10:00am • Library:Every other Tuesday 9:30-10:00am • PE with Mrs. Day:Wednesday 9:15-10:00am • Wear closed toed shoes, preferably tennis shoes! • Band:Various times within the week depending on the instrument. Keep an eye out for applications soon. • Student Council: Be on the lookout for applications soon.

Common Core Transition • This year is a transition year from our current CA state standards to the Nationwide Common Core State Standards. • Dublin Unified is shifting to the Common Core State Standards so that students beginning in Grade 3 in the spring of 2015, will be prepared to take the Smarter Balanced Assessments. • This year there will be informational meeting to educate parents and answer questions related to the Common Core State Standards and the new Smarter Balanced Assessments. • A link will be added to the DUSD homepage which will provide additional information about the Common Core State Standards. • If you would like more information, you can visit www.smarterbalanced.org

Volunteer Opportunities… • Do you want to be a Room Parent(s)? • Can you be a Parent Helper for our classroom parties? • Can you help out with some of the following: • Classroom decorator (monthly) • Photocopying (anytime) • Project prepping (anytime – can be at home) • Science project help (monthly- in class) • Guest speakers/presentations – share a passion or something fun with our class • Career Lessons – share the ins and outs of your job with our class

  13. Field Trips… • Monterey Bay Aquarium • December 19th, we will be traveling by bus • Mission San Jose Tour • Tentatively in February 2014 • “I-Recycle” Recycling Center Tour • Tentatively in April 2014 • Oakland Museum of CA – gold panning • Tentatively in May 2014

  15. How Can I Help My Child? • Consistent Homework Expectations • Have a dedicated place, time, and/or routine for homework practice. • Math Homework • Keep the page organized • Show all your work in your notebook • List the page number, lesson, and number each problem

  16. How Can I Help My Child? • Math Facts • Practice with triangular flashcards • Continue to take timed tests • Play games to help memorize multiplication & division facts • Reading • Talk to your kids about what they are reading • Have students write/draw about what they read • Read daily!

  17. How Can I Help My Child? • Projects • Read through assignment sheets • Help your child to plan a timeline on finishing their project • Do not procrastinate!
