How to Swing a Baseball Bat Chris Oresic
My Goal • To teach the class how to swing a bat like a pro. • Preparation • Find a Grip • Get a good stance • Fundamentals of a swing
Parts of a Baseball Bat • Handle • Barrel • Knob
Preparation • Chose a bat that fits you • You want it to be the lightest without sacrificing length • If the bat is too heavy “ Choke Up” on the bat • Two types of bats: • Metal • Wood
Get a Grip • Find a grip that works for YOU. • Line up the your “Door Knocking” knuckles.
Take a Stance • You want a stance that works for you. • Make sure you are balanced. • Doesn’t need to be fancy. • Decide whether or not you want to take stride
Time to Swing Away • “Load the hands” and shift the weight on your back leg • Start the hips through the zone • Have the hands follow • Generate “Bat Lag” • Lead with the knob of the bat • Hands through the zone first and the bat will follow • Creates a whip-like action makes the ball “jump” off the bat • Follow through the zone with two hands on the bat • During your swing you should keep your chin tucked and your eyes on the ball
Now its your time to try! • Get into pairs • Take swings with imaginary bat • Critique each others swings • Volunteers
