§ Quality Standards Definition • According to ISO, standard is a published document. • It is a set of rules to be used consistently as good principles, practices or guidelines.
§ Server Rooms Quality Standards • Room specifications: • Room walls, ceiling, and doors should be sound isolated from other occupied areas. • Doors should be 42" to 48" wide, and 8' tall. • Room should not have windows (security reasons) • a minimum 9' ceiling. 5
§ Server Rooms Quality Standards • Cooling And Air conditioning • Racks should be arranged in a hot isle/cold isle • cooling and humidity control should be via an independent AC system (i.e., not connected to main building system), with a return air design temperature of 72°F (±2°F) • and humidity 45% (±5%), respectively. • There should be sufficient clearance (minimum 4') between the A/C unit and computer racks in order to avoid potential damage from water leaks, as well as to allow for maintenance access. 6

§ Fire Extinguishers Quality Standards • Listed under the National Institute and Occupational Safety and Health is the following standard for Portable fire extinguishers (1910.157): • The requirements of this section apply to the placement, use, maintenance, and testing of portable fire extinguishers • Extinguishers readily accessible • The employer shall assure that portable fire extinguishers are maintained in a fully charged and operable condition and kept in their designated places at all times except during use. • There must be a sign showing the place and the type of Extinguishers
§ Fire Alarm Quality Standards • Common guidelines for fire alarm systems include: • The detector base shall be suitable for surface mounting on a ceiling and shall fit on a 65 mm standard C-type electrical outlet box with fixing holes at 50 mm centers. Fixing lugs or holes in the base shall be substantial and shall withstand repeated insertion and removal of the head without damage. • The base shall be provided with wire terminals suitable for wire sizes up to 1,5 mm2.
