Working as a child/youth program leader for the Town of Whitby, I noticed there was a lack of communication between the other leaders when it came to shift exchanges/children’s programs • Shifts would be changed on the main schedule but no one else could see that but our supervisor Situation:
To fix this problem I suggested in one of our staff meetings that all the program leaders (who all have smart phones) use the IM app, “WhatsApp” and create a group that enables us to communicate better together and see what shifts are being exchanged and when so covering shifts is not as difficult Action:
The “WhatsApp” group has been in progress for about two weeks now and everyone has been onboard with using it. • Getting shifts covered and knowing what changes have been made to the schedule have made it easier to find coverage and because of my communication skills, the situation has been managed better Result:
As a summer camp leader, I was provided with the task to plan a camp-wide carnival. In previous years, it was planned for us already but we changed locations this past summer. I was given a budget of $450.00 and was required to have entertainment, food, an blow-up object (ex. Jumping castle) and 12 additional stations Situation:
Using my networking and planning skills I approached several companies to get a good deal since we needed more than one thing. I mapped out the venue to create different stations, schedules for each of the 12 groups attending and planned a thorough event and stayed on top of everything while it was going on. Action:
The carnival was a big hit, I was able to score a great deal with a company and still had $50.00 leftover in the budget. We had a clown, an obstacle course, a popcorn machine and several other themed stations and everyone had a blast Result:
Working as a head hostess at The Keg, I had a team of 6 younger girls on a busy Saturday night. The girls often had a hard time communicating amongst themselves and developed issues when it was entirely unnecessary Situation:
To create a better teamwork atmosphere with my team of girls, I changed my attitude so that they would follow. I created a fun atmosphere by assigning tasks and jobs for the evening that I knew would help create a better team, by pairing girls together who I knew had more in common, etc. Action:
That night, a secret shopper came into our restaurant. The past few months, my host team had been scoring low but we obtained a 94% positive feedback from the shopper. The comment specifically said that the host team worked great together. Result:
