Older men and women are often made vulnerable to a number of health problems as they reach a certain age in life, health experts say.  The risk of a certain disease, including chronic diseases and cancer, may increase as a person advances in years.  While younger and middle-aged adults may also encounter the disease at a certain point in their lifetime, colon cancer, is one of the health conditions that often occurs to senior adults, health experts say, pointing out how the cancer may occur to 90 percent of the time in people over the age of 50.  Also known as colorectal cancer, it has been reportedly the third most commonly diagnosed cancer, and the second most leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women in the United States.

Although the risk appears to be greater in men, incidence of colon cancer has also been reported to be high in older women.  It may be a relief to many women in particular to know how they may be hitting two birds with one stone by fighting osteoporosis and reducing their risk of colon cancer, all at the same time, through the help of osteoporosis drugs such as Fosamax, as revealed by an early study.  However, new evidence from an emerging analysis may turn this promising theory around as it reveals how Fosamax and other bisphosphonates may not differ in effect against colon cancer.
