Transfer Combined Learning for Future Use
Casey's Quest: Transfer Learning When did Casey start performing well?
Types of transfer: Positive past knowledge facilitates new learning Example: true cognates
Types of transfer: Negative past knowledge inhibits new learning Example: false cognates English/Dutch: The Sign Really Says, "Mommy, (I want) that one, that one, that one. Please."
Types of transfer: Near Transfer of knowledge between closely related concepts A person who knows how to drive a car can transfer these existing skills to learn how to drive a bus Automated task oriented
Types of transfer: Far Transfer of knowledge between (seemingly) disparate concepts VS. A person who has a lot of practice driving an automatic may have difficulty learning to drive a manual transmission car. Thinking process oriented
