Why a Transfer Policy? • It is a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirement for institutions to have a transfer policy • GRCC currently does not have a formal transfer policy, only an established practice
Current STANDARDS – Your Input • Official transcripts are evaluated for admitted degree-seeking students • Transfer credit is awarded for: • Courses from appropriately recognized institutions • Courses with grades of “C-“or higher (Proposed change: Courses with grades of a “C” or higher.) • 100-300-level courses • A maximum 47 transfer credits may be applied toward a degree at GRCC (Proposed Change: A maximum of 45 transfer credits may be applied toward a degree at GRCC.)
Current STANDARDS • Credits may be transferred to GRCC as credit by examination and posted as tested credit • Transfer credit is posted as ‘T’ and grades are not calculated into the GPA • Undecided students: MACRAO/General Education/Graduation requirements • Transferring in credit equivalent to a failed course at GRCC • Multiple transcripts
Current STANDARDS TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH A DEGREE OR 60 CREDITS • Students who have earned degrees and declare a transfer intent are not evaluated for transfer credit • Students who have earned degrees and declare a specific program are evaluated for transfer credit • Students who have earned 60 or more credits but have not completed a degree are sent an intent letter • Program specific, evaluated • Transfer intent, filed
Current STANDARDS FOREIGN INSTITUTIONS, EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING AND NON-TRADITIONAL ADULT LEARNING PROGRAMS • Foreign Transcripts / Study Away • Military Credit • External Testing • Internal Testing • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) • American Council on Education (ACE) • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) • Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
Current Process TRANSCRIPTS: • Students must submit official transcripts in a sealed envelope directly to the Enrollment Center or electronically • Reverse transfer students must submit an official transcript with a completed Reverse Transfer Agreement form directly to Student Records • Other transcripts (Military, International, External Testing, etc.)
Current Process COMMUNICATION: • Students are notified when transfer credit has been posted (in development) • Undecided students are told we evaluate against MACRAO/General Education/Graduation Requirements (in development) • Students are told to contact Student Records to have transcripts reevaluated (in development) • Students with 60 or more transfer credits who have not completed a degree are sent an intent letter
