Paving the way towards a joint policy response on the air pollution impact due to the tourist sector of cruise and passenger ships in the MED basin. CAIMANs objectives include providing high-quality information on air quality impact, addressing community concerns on health risks, proposing mitigation actions, and identifying critical points and possible solutions.

CAIMANs objectives: • To provide high quality information of the air quality impact of maritime tourism traffic in harbour cities; • To answer the concern of harbour city communities on health risk due to plumes emitted by cruise and passenger ships; • To propose mitigation actions; • To identify critical points andpossible solutions in the whole Mediterranean area; • Toidentifygapsto be addressed at transnational level
CAIMANs’technical steps Air dispersion modelling/CO2 emission estimation current situation and development/mitigation scenarios in Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Venice, Thessaloniki Involvement of Southern Mediterranean ports in identification of critical points and perspectives for mitigation actions on air quality impact of cruise and passenger ships Identification of critical end points to establish a common transnational policy to mitigate cruise and passenger ship air quality impact in the MED basin
