MASTERColour CDM-T/TC Elite 35W/70W / 930FAQ (1)… What is new or different in this new generation of Elite lamps? This new generation CDM Elite lamps is based on breakthroughs in burner design, metal halide composition and burner processing. Burner shape is the only visible change compared to the existing Elite lamps, but the largest part of the change from Elite to the new generation happens inside the burner. What performance increase can we expect? • more light +10% for 35W and +5% for 70W • more life: +25% • Improved red rendering (R9) When will the new lamps be available? The new lamps will become available from Sept. 1st 2010 onwards, with new codes (to enable easy phase in and phase out). There will be a phase-over period of 3 months. Can this new Elite generation also run on Electromagnetic (EM) gear? The new CDM-T Elite lamps are designed to run on both EL and EM gear. NOTE: We do not recommend using the CDM-TC (standard or Elite) in combination with EM gear because of end-of-life safety.
MASTERColour CDM-T/TC Elite 35W/70W / 930FAQ (2)… Will performance be different on EM gear? The spec table on the next page lists target performance on EM gear and shows differences in lumen output, lumen maintenance and life time. At release, we have evidence of maximum 12.000hrs of life on EM gear. We will continue tests and update specs once proven. What is the benefit of relamping standard CDM on EM gear with the new Elite generation on EM gear? The new Elite lamps perform much better than normal CDM, even on EM gear. See table next page. Conclusion: relamping from normal CDM to Elite new generation gives more light (+15%) with superior maintenance (+20%..+30%), improves light quality (CRI + 8points), and makes red look visibly better. Do I need a new reflector when I change current Elite to the new generation Elite? • The lamps have been designed with the same LCL and are retrofit in existing luminaires. In most cases a new reflector design is not needed. Some remarks: just like with any ceramic metal halide lamps, we advice to use facetted reflectors for optimal light distribution. In some applications, optical behaviour could be different compared to CDM lamps with cylindrical burners. This depends amongst others on reflector design and beam angle in combination with burning orientation. We provide optical files to support reflector optimisation.
MASTERColour CDM-T/TC Elite 35W/70W / 930FAQ (3): benefits of uplamping on EM gear (1) With the new Elite generation, uplamping is now possible also on EM gear. That means normal CDM lamps can be replaced by Elite lamps, which will create a visibly better light effect! • Uplamping from CDM to Elite new generation brings significant benefits for existing installations: • more light (+15%) • better quality of light -> CRI = 90 • better maintenance • All this at the same energy cost! (*) at the moment of introduction we have enough evidence for 12khrs. We will communicate new specs once proven. Note: CDM-T lamps have optimal lumen maintenance and lifetime on EL gear.``
MASTERColour CDM-T/TC Elite 35W/70W / 930FAQ (3): benefits of uplamping on EM gear (2) Difference in lumen packages for 35W uplamping and 70W uplamping. on EM gear. Elite lamps provide higher CRI and a substantial amount of more lumens.
MASTERColour CDM-T/TC Elite 35W/70W / 930FAQ (4) – outdoor application… Can the CDM Elite lamps be used in outdoor application? Yes, the long life and high lumen output with high lumen maintenance make these lamps very suitable for outdoor applications. Note: the lamp driver should be designed for outdoor application or extra measures should be taken at luminaire level (protection against dust and moisture, mains surges and other mains voltage variation, lighting strokes).
MASTERColour CDM Elite new generationFAQ (5): different burner shape explained… • Why does Philips now use differently shaped burners for this new lamp? • CDM lamps with “round shaped” burners already exist. Such as CDM-T 250W and CDM-T Elite MW 210/315W. The burner shape is the result of the continuous efforts of Philips to deliver the best possible optimum between excellent quality of light and unbeatable total cost of ownership. • Is a elliptical shaped burner better than cylindrical? • The burner shape is the only visible improvement on the outside. • The winning performance of the new Elite generation is also the result of the improvements on inside of the burner.
