Virtue Defined • MacArthur defines it as “the God given ability to perform heroic deeds.” • The Stoics insisted that in life there must continuously be what they called “prokope”, moral progress. • The Greek word “areti” (pronounced ar et ay) means excellence.
Virtue is An Attitude We Need To Have • Attitude determines outcome. • Virtuous Thinking • Philippians 4:8 • Mark 7:21-23 • Proverbs 23:7 • Garbage in, garbage out
Virtue Is An Action That We Must Take • Inwardly, virtue is an attitude that we need. • Outwardly, virtue is an action that we must take. • How are we to be virtuous? • At Work • Be a good employee/employer • Don’t waste time • Treat all people with respect • Be honest in your dealings with others • At Home • Love your family • Take care of their needs • Physically • Emotionally • Spiritually • Be compassionate • Be people of your word • Be humble • Be an example
Virtue Is An Action That We Must Take • How are we to be virtuous? • At Church • Love God’s people • Be loyal • Be friendly/develop good relationships • Be willing to work for Jesus • Be honest in your dealing with God and his people. • Be accountable
