WP Davidson High School 2012-2013PST Procedures
PST • Problem Solving Team • “to help guide general education intervention services for all students who have academic or behavior difficulties” • Involves ALL Faculty & ALL Students • Exceptions: Special Education Students already receiving Services & ESL students receiving intervention in language arts
PST Documentation • Should be kept by the individual teacher • Is State Education Law • Should be reviewed & discussed with other faculty members
Teacher Must Notify Parent • When a student is put on PST the parent must be notified • Put comment on progress report • Write a letter and send it home with the student • E-mail parent
Universal Screening • 9th grade teachers have access to Universal screening data (star testing). • 9th grade remediation strategies can be developed from the star screening data • PST committee will evaluate the cumulative results of the screenings and may assist in intervention development
Attendance • 1st Block Teachers • Refer to PST after 3 unexcused absences • Teacher Responsibility • Fill out PST Form • Email Registrar • Keep Form, Email & Other document in PST Folder • Registrar: refers student to attendance officer
Discipline • PST Discipline Committee • Administration • Discipline Clerk • Registrar • Responsible for PST documentation based on discipline referrals, suspension days & retract
Any student NOT covered by Universal Screening, Attendance or Discipline Teacher Observation
In Danger of Failing • Any student in any course who is in danger of failing is eligible for PST consideration • Complete the PST Form & develop an intervention • Document the amazing things you already do with your students • Recommend after school tutoring • Contact Parent • ETC, ETC, ETC
In Danger of Failing • Student can be removed from the PST process if they refuse to participate in the intervention • As long as the teacher documents proposed intervention & student behavior • Can document lack of participation on progress report, keep a tally of how many days the student slept in class, etc.
Immediate Concern • If you have immediate concerns about a student’s physical, emotional or mental abilities you may consider contacting PST committee • Stephanie Hunn • David Holland • Guidance Department
MCPSS recommendations • Every 2-3 weeks teachers review students in the PST process and evaluate interventions and new data • Share best practices • PST Meeting Options • Grade Level (all 10th Grade Teachers) • Specific Course (All Geometry Teachers • Subject Area (Entire English Department) • Cross Curriculum (World History & English 9) • Scheduled by faculty members with the assistance of Dept. Chairs, PST Committee and DHS Administration
Follow Up Documentation • Put copies in Bearden’s box • Reviewed by various DHS PST Committee Members post meeting • J Bearden • D Holland • Guidance • Dept Chairs • Administration • Minutes & Sign In are part of our Title I Department Meeting Documentation; give one copy to Bearden and one to Holland
