  2. Making Predictions • A prediction is a logical guess about what will happen next in a story. • You must use prior knowledge and clues from the story to make a prediction. • Ask yourself: What do I already know? • Sometimes predictions must be changed as you gather more details from the story.

He is a father bringing home his child from an outing. • C. She is the narrator’s younger annoying sister. • D. He is a young dog. • Passage #2: Where is the narrator going?

  5. Making Predictions Read this passage and use your organizer to answer the prediction question. Even though Marcus begged his mom repeatedly to get a puppy, she always says no. She says, “Marcus, you never remember to brush your own teeth! How will you remember to feed and take care of a puppy?” One day as Marcus was walking home from school, he noticed he was being followed by a brown and white puppy. Marcus knelt down and examined the puppy for tags but found none. This puppy didn’t have an owner! Marcus thought to himself, “I’ll show Mom that I can be responsible!” Task: Predict what Marcus will do. Predict what his mother will do.
