The First Scuba Device • In 1772, Frenchmen, SieurFreminet invented The Rebreathing Device that recycled the exhaled air from inside of the barrel • This was the first self-contained air device. • Freminet died from lack of oxygen after being in his own device for twenty minutes.
Chemical Dumping • It wasn’t until 1972 that the U.S banned dumping chemical weapons into the ocean. • 32,000 tons of nerve and mustard agents had already been dumped into the ocean waters off the United States. • 26 chemical weapons dump sites in the ocean off at least 11 states • The effects on the ocean are unknown but if it leeks it will last up to 6 weeks before being broken down into something nonlethal
