3. Australian Government Policy The Australian Government supports the development of a sustainable uranium mining sector in line with world’s best practice environmental and safety standards
States and Territories determine their policies on uranium mining
Uranium mining trigger the EPBC Act (DEWHA)
All exports are done under strict safeguards arrangements and only to NPT countries (ASNO)
Minister for Resources issues export permits for uranium (RET)
4. Uranium Export Permits Minister for Resources and Energy grants permits under Regulation 9 of the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958
Conditional permits valid for 10 years
Allows direct exports to all countries within Australia's network of bilateral safeguards agreements

Safeguards clearances for each shipment
Reporting requirements
Minister can impose other conditions
