LAST WEEK SPEAKER FEATURED KIWANIAN KIWANIS SPOT Congratulations! Carol Wallace was the featured Kiwanian last week. She told us the story of her interest in theater and dance and then law, that eventually led her to meet her husband Manny. She was also Kiwanis International conventions began when the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland invited representatives of other clubs to meet there in May 1916. At that time there were a total of 16 clubs with 1,924 members. A Kiwanis International convention has been conducted every year since then, except for limited conferences in 1943-45 due to wartime travel restrictions. Today, the usual attendance at an International convention is about 12,000. Happy Birthday! Walter Mather 6/30 Guy Bond 7/3 Happy Anniversary! James & Mary Ellen Lee 7/13 Date Joined: Jennifer King 7/5/01 Carl Krouch 7/5/01 Project SOS Pam Mullarkey brought Ashley Brown and Nick Lambeau to our last meeting to talk about Project SOS. It seems we are continuing the “helping troubled teens” milieu. I am glad we are. Pam spoke about her Project SOS (Strengthening our Students) that is active in schools all over Florida, and internationally, helping to teach young folks to behave more responsibly. They actually have some statistics that indicate that it may be working. An impressive aspect of this program is the upbeat description of a life of good choices, and an honest un-varnished discussion of the results of bad choices. No one is trying to convince children that so called “protected sex” is safe for anyone. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest lies that our government has pushed on our children. Call Pam at 279-0870 and offer to help, or visit www.projectsos.com . very active with Kiwanis in New Jersey. Welcome Guests INDEPENDENCE DAY WORD SEARCH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Thanks to everyone who worked. Ashley Brown & Nick Lambeau Fran McDermott with Host Max Booke --Butch Shadwell Lieutenant Governor Speaks Bill Montgomery slowed down the alimentary activity long enough to tell the group about going to the Florida District Convention in Tampa in August. “…Last one to sign up is a rotten egg.” America is celebrating her 229th birthday on July 4, 2005.
