S4 Work Experience

Prepare for your work experience placement! Parents fill consent form, find placement, submit paperwork, safe and suitable placements ensured. Family, friends, local businesses, and internet can all help. Police Scotland, NHS, Army, and Arnold Clark offer opportunities. Remember additional Arnold Clarke placement in July-August. Use WorkIT database or consult teachers/careers adviser. Work hard to secure a placement and seek guidance from Miss Oram if needed.

  2. Time to start thinking about this • Remember…………….. • Every S4 pupil in MCHS goes on a Work Experience Placement. • Monday 10th to Fri 14th October. • Helps you to prepare for leaving school. • YOU take on the responsibility of organising the placement.

  3. What you have to do…..

  5. Your parents must complete the lilac consent form giving permission for you to attend • Return form to the school office • Please do it asap????

  6. Remember • It’s best if you find your own placement • This gives you a wider choice • Number of school placements are limited • School placements…limited variety

  8. Looking for a placement?

  9. Contact an employer and ask if they would be willing to take you on a work experience placement.

  10. What do you do if you find one! • Paperwork……. Give or send the employer this form to complete and make sure that it is returned to Mrs Steen in the school office. However….If you have misplaced your forms and need replacements see Miss Oram or Mrs Steen in school office.

  11. S4 Work Experience Week 10th to 14th Oct 2016 Friday 12th June

  12. Why this form? • We need to ensure your placement is safe and suitable • We have to get ‘Gateway’ to check each company for insurance purposes • Gateway need plenty time to do this • As • They cannot do this just a few weeks before!

  13. If possible • Give the Placement Form to the Employer • Arrange to collect it from them to ensure you get it back and return it to the school ASAP.

  14. However • If it’s more convenient the employer can go onto the school website and access an electronic copy • This can be completed and e-mailed to the school office

  20. Particular Placements • Police Scotland • NHS • Army • Arnold Clark Summer training programme

  21. Police Scotland Time: 3rd - 7th October 2016. Age: 16 Only: 1 place per school To apply: See the Campus Police Officer The closing date for applications is Friday 20thMay 2016. If you are successful…you still have to have a different placement for the work experience week since the Police placement takes place at a different time.

  22. NHS • If you are organising an NHS placement do not use the Self Placement Form • The NHS placement form can be found on the work experience website • Once you have organised your placement, complete the placement form and return to Miss Oram

  23. Another Opportunity • There are placements available with the Army • However • You would still have to organise a different placement for the work experience week as the dates offered are outwith the designated W.Exp week

  24. Army • Army Work Experience Dates – • Maximum 4 per school • See Miss Oram for details • Remember….You still have to undertake another placement during the school work experience week

  25. Arnold Clarke offer placements to pupils interested in the car industry. You can apply for a placement by completing and returning the application form to Miss Oram. The application form is on the school website in the Work Experience section.

  26. However • There is an additional opportunity you can pursue with Arnold Clarke

  29. What happens if you can’t find a placement? The school have a database which has a variety of placements • The database is called WorkIT • In August you will be given a username and a password • You can log onto WorkIT and apply for a placement

  30. Remember • It’s best to find your own placement since the range of placements on offer on WorkIT is narrow.
