Let’s talk about the ways that we can find time to READthroughout the school day.
Schedule a common school wide READing time. 20 minutes a day At the beginning of the block 1st block – Monday 2nd block - Tuesday 5th block – Wednesday 3rd block - Thursday 4th block - Friday
READ a story to introduce a lesson. Collaborate with the librarian on a regular basis and ask her to help you find a book that will be appropriate to begin your lesson. Students can enjoy listening to a story being read to them as they are introduced to a new objective. Read across the curriculum!
READ a novel with your class. Choose a novel that relates to what you are teaching or simply set aside some time each day to read for pleasure. Be sure to expose your students to many different authors. Students who read together, learn together!
Have your students to READindependently when they complete a classroom assignment. Give students the opportunity to read when they have completed an assignment. Schedule regular visits to the library. Allow them to go individually or take them as a class.
Initiate a READing club and encourage students to join. Share your love of reading by sponsoring a before or after school reading club.
