Page 3: PAIR - SHARE • Brainstorm and writea list of all the stories, songs, movies/TV show titles you know that include “3” elements. • Ex: Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Rule of Three • A pattern used in storytelling • Makes the story easy to remember • Two events build tension, and the 3rd event releases it • Examples: The 3rd of 3 brothers succeeds after the 2 older siblings fail (Puss in Boots) • The protagonist is given 3 tests and receives the prize after the 3rd • Aladdin – three wishes • Frog Prince – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2n0wKKrrZM
The Rule of Three • Things that come in 3s are more effective than any other number • Funnier • More satisfying • More effective • Easier to consume

HOMEWORK • Look through magazines, newspapers, and direct mail, and find 1-2 examples of the rule of 3 Headlines (TEXT) or Graphics (IMAGES) • Cut them out and bring them to class by Friday
