Salary For a teacher working in BC with the union the average salary is 37,000 – 56,000 during their first 4 years of working. After 6 years, teachers with the union can make an average salary of 45,0000 – 70,000. For my first 4 years of teaching I would be happy with living by myself or with a roommate in a small, rented apartment. I would like to have my own car as well as live in Vancouver. Using the calculator on the link below I factored in these variables and found that if I am careful with my budget then I will likely be able to support myself in this way on the salary of a new teacher. http://www.costofliving.welcomebc.ca/
Job Prospects The prospects for teaching in British Columbia are not very good. You can either work for public schools or private schools, many of which do not need more staff. This is evident in the staggering statistic from Ontario college (2011) 2/3 of new teachers are unemployed or underemployed after graduating Though there are some jobs in BC it might be more realistic to work as a teacher elsewhere.

This will help them to be good teachers as well as create bonds with students
Education required To teach in BC you have to have: • Undergraduate degree (4 years) in relevant subject • Go through teaching program in Canada to receive Certification of qualification from BC Ministry of Education (Annual fee required, takes 10 months – 2 years to achieve)
Surprising facts • Teachers don’t just teach children they also aid them in becoming better citizens of the world this makes them very good role models
Conclusion Being a teacher seems to be a job very suited to me, and I think it is definitely something for me to look into. However, because of poor job prospects in British Columbia I may have to live somewhere else to be able to work as one.
