How do we get started? • Find an FYC partner and negotiate a topic • For a new FYC • Consult regularly with your partner to establish a solid, connecting FYC for your freshmen • Negotiate one-course release time for prep • Request an appropriate summer stipend • Do early planning of co-curricular events • Purchase resources needed
How do we get started? (continued) • Prepare to meet some simple deadlines • Early September: Have a preliminary course description for posting on website. (All FYCs) • Early December: Preliminary FYC proposal due to Curriculum Committee (New FYCs) • Mid April 2007: FYC Update Form due to FYE Advisory Board (New FYCs) • Late August 2007: Syllabus due to FYE Advisory Board (New FYCs)
How do we get started? (continued) • Attend the FYE Retreat on May 24 • Take advantage of workshops offered • Ask for support as needed
Support and Resources • See our website FYE Administration • New FYCs • Release time (providing your department can arrange it): One course in January, Spring, or Fall 2006. • Summer development stipend(s) of up to $3000 per instructor. • Start-up funds—$1000 per instructor. • Co-curricular event funding—about $3000 per FYC. • Freshman advising stipend—$1000. • Repeat FYCs • Stipend equivalent to that for an Honors course • Freshman advising stipend—$1000.
