Clubfoot(talipes equinovarus) • Clubfoot is used to describe a foot defect present at birth. The defect can be mild or severe, and it can involve one or both feet. • It is the most common birth defect in the world, more than 4,000 babies in the US, are born with clubfoot each year. • talipes /tal·i·pes/ a congenital deformity in which the foot is twisted out of shape or position; it may be in dorsiflexion(t. calca´neus), in plantar flexion (t. equi´nus), abducted and everted (t. val´gus or flatfoot), abducted inverted (t. va`rus) or combination equinoval’gus or t. equinova’rus.
Talipes Calcaneus • A deformity due to weakness or absence of the calf muscle, in which the axis of calcaneus becomes vertically oriented • X-rays for TC : plant dorsal, mediolateral of calcaneus, and lateral or mediolateral of the foot can be used as well.
Talipes Equinus • Congenital deformity of the foot usually marked by a curled shape or twisted position of the ankle, heel, and toes. • X-rays used • Lateral shows hind foot parallelism between talus & calcaneus • Dorsiflexion lateral (Turco’s) • AP Foot
Talipes Valgus • Is a permanent eversion of the foot, the inner side alone of the sole resting on the ground ; it is usually combined with a breaking down of the planter arch. • Valgus deformity is a term for outward angulation of the distal segment of a bone or joint.
Talipes Varus • Varus (angled inward, bent or twisted inward) • Talipes varus is a deformity of the foot in which it is rotated outward so that walking is done on the outer side of the sole. • X-Rays: AP, frog-leg, lateral radiographsposterior and medial slipif mild slip, AP view may be normal or show slightly widened growth plate compared with opposite sid.
