Community Psychological Medicine Service Incorporating Medically Unexplained Symptoms Service Talking Health & Wellbeing • CPMS: for moderate/complex combined physical/psychological health problems and/or high intensity users of services • MUS:Persistent physical symptoms without medical explanation • Liaison psychiatry / Psychotherapy (up to 16 face-to-face sessions) • Where no other service exists to meet need • Liaison w/ health services e.g. RBH/SCAS • Referrals from primary/secondary care • LTCs including 3 core conditions: COPD/respiratory, type 2 diabetes & heart failure • Coping, adjustment and self-management • Groups (generic LTC & core-condition specific) & guided self-help • Primary/secondary care & self referral
An individual’s psychology impacts on their health (and vice versa), how they respond to ill health, and on how they use healthcare resources Psychological interventions aim to improve psychological functioning / flexibility and coping, and address patterns of behaviour which impact upon health, self-management and healthcare use Benefits to the individual, their family and the healthcare system as a whole
