Think-Pair-Share Activity ehanceactivelearntechnology.wikispaces.com
Aims • Think-Pair-Share is a cooperative learning technique • It stimulates engagement and participation in class • Encourages each learner to contribute their own ideas in a safe and structured way • It increases the quality of student response through the use of Think Time • It is designed to provide learners with "food for thought" on a given topic enabling them to formulate individual ideas and then share these ideas with another learner • Rather than using a method in which a teacher poses a question and one learner offers a response, Think-Pair-Share encourages a high degree of individual learner response and can help keep learners on task • It can be used with any size of group • Lyman, F. (1981). The Responsive Classroom Discussion: The Inclusion of All Students. Mainstreaming Digest. University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
Step-by-Step • Think Time: Present a stimulus question, problem or image that learners can work on alone. There should be no conversation between learners during Think Time • Give participants 2 minutes to write down their individual thoughts. • Pair Time: In pairs students share their ideas • Share Time: Chosen learner gives feedback to the whole group
