  1. Homework Read: p. 294-297 Do: p 297-300: 1, 3, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 42 Objectives SWBAT: -Display their knowledge of slope Bell RingerCalculate the slope using the slope formula for each:1. (2, 0) & (-2, 7)2. (4, 3) & (5, 3)3. (3, 4) & (5, 4)4. (-1, -7) & (7, 4)

  2. Objectives SWBAT: -Display their knowledge of slope Find the slope using the graph: (4, 3) & (5, 3)

  3. Objectives SWBAT: -Display their knowledge of slope Recall, there are 4 different Types of slopes Positive Slope Increasing Negative Slope Decreasing Zero Slope Horizontal Line No Slope (Undefined) Vertical Line

  4. Objectives SWBAT: -Display their knowledge of slope Slope can be expressed different ways: This can also be written as: Slope = Second y – First y Second x – First x

  5. Find the slope of the line that goes through the points (-5, 3) and (2, 1).

  6. Determine the slope of the line shown. • -2 • -½ • ½ • 2

  7. Determine the slope of the line. -1 Find points on the graph. Use two of them and apply rise over run. 2 The line is decreasing (slope is negative).

  8. What is the slope of a horizontal line? The line doesn’t rise! All horizontal lines have a slope of 0.

  9. What is the slope of a vertical line? The line doesn’t run! All vertical lines have an undefined slope.

  10. Remember the word “VUXHOY” Vertical lines Undefined slope X = number; This is the equation of the line. Horizontal lines O - zero is the slope Y = number; This is the equation of the line.

  11. Draw a line through the point (2,0) that has a slope of 3. 1. Graph the ordered pair (2, 0). 2. From (2, 0), apply rise over run (write 3 as a fraction). 3. Plot a point at this location. 4. Draw a straight line through the points. 1 3

  12. The slope of a line that goes through the points (r, 6) and (4, 2) is 4. Find r. To solve this, plug the given information into the formula

  13. To solve for r, simplify and write as a proportion. Cross multiply. 4(4 – r) 1(-4) =

  14. Simplify and solve the equation.1(-4) = 4(4 – r) -4 = 16 – 4r -16 -16 -20 = -4r -4 -4 5 = r The ordered pairs are (5, 6) and (4, 2)

  15. Homework Read: p. 294-297 Do: p 297-300: 1, 3, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 42 Reflection:Explain how slope could be applied to a real-world situation. Justify your response
