  1. THE SI PITCH:HOW TO SELL YOUR CHICKEN!

  2. CHICKEN Do not assume that students want to come to your SI. They have other things that they would rather do. Think of your SI Group as chicken that you are trying to sell to vegetarians. Work hard at making it sound: Fun Helpful

  3. THE PITCH You will sell your SI Group by advertising the group to the class on the first day of class. Remind your professor that you will need 30 seconds to pitch your group. If your professor has additional sections of this course, try to find time to “pop-in” on those classes to make this first pitch. Seeing your face is important! You will continue to remind the class once a week throughout the semester about SI –sometimes standing up and sometimes writing on the board.

  4. SELLING POINTS What can you say that will sell SI? Students who attend regularly usually score a half letter grade to a full letter grade higher than they would otherwise! (quote good results from SI Report if you have one from last semester or reference the report in full to the right). You have to study—why not do it faster and better working with others?! Your professor will assist me with what we can do in the group that will help you do well on exams!

  5. WHAT NOT TO SAY If you don’t understand the professor, SI really helps. . . I will answer your questions about homework. . . Anything that indicates that you teach or are a teacher. . .

  6. THE FLYER Bring with you to the first pitch, copies of your SI Flyer. Include: Your name Course Professor’s name Place (give directions) Time If you can be contacted via facebook page for you or group –or can be contacted via D2L (ask your professor), then put that on your flyer. Do not put your phone number! Have some fun with this! Write a rhyme use a cartoon etc.

  7. THE FLYER You can make flyers in the AARC workroom. You can print them there too. Choose Canon Printer. You can print these 4-8 a page and then cut them using our cutting board. Don’t make whole-page handouts. Our copier is cranky! Do not use colored paper in the workroom. You may use your own colored paper. Make enough copies for all sections of the course for which your professor teaches. If you can’t do the pitch in all sections, then give the professor copies to distribute.

  8. HOMEWORK Write a 20-30 second pitch. Bring it to training camp. We will help you make it great!
