What is WRLC ? http://www.wrlc.org/
In the Beginning • The Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) was established in 1987 by some of the major universities in the Washington D.C. area to share library collections and information technology in order to enhance the resources available to their students and faculty.
Washington Research Library Consortium • AMERICAN UNIVERSITY (AU) • THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA (CU) • THE UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (DC) • GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY (GA) • GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY (GM) • GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY (GT) • THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY (GW) • HOWARD UNIVERSITY (HU) • MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY (MU) • TRINITY UNIVERSITY (TR)
What does WRLC offer • Reciprocal borrowing based on a shared online catalog • Consortia licensing of online resources • Cooperative collection development • Offsite storage
What do you get out the deal? • Direct borrowing: Students and faculty may borrow in person at any member library • Consortium Loan Service(CLS): Students and faculty may place an online request for a book or article held by another member library. • Universities have Unique Special Collections
Aladin - the shared digital library system • The centerpiece of WRLC's programs is the shared information system known as ALADIN (Access to Library and Database Information Network)
DIGITAL LIBRARY SYSTEM • Shared union catalog for the eight member universities representing over 7 million volumes • Digital images and audio of unique primary source materials from WRLC special collections • Millions of licensed online articles (mostly full-image or full-text, some as citations with abstracts) available for display, printing, or email
Loan period for books: • Faculty Fixed due dates: 1/31, 5/31, 9/30 (due date dependent on when book is checked out) • Graduate Students 42 days • Undergraduate Students 28 days • Staff 28 days
Borrowing in person • Each patron shall present a current valid university photo ID from a member university in order to borrow eligible items at WRLC member libraries.
Fines and Replacement information • Daily fine per book (for books not recalled) $0.25 / day • Maximum overdue fine (for books not recalled) $10.00 • Daily recall fine amount $5.00 / day • Maximum recall fine $25.00 • Lost book replacement fee $67.00 (39 Days pass due date) • Lost book processing fee $30.00 (39 Days pass due date) • Lost book replacement fee - Actual cost of book
Requesting Materials Through the Consortium Loan Service (CLS)
Offsite Storage • WRLC operates a shared offsite storage facility designed to free valuable space in the campus libraries for newer or more frequently-accessed materials.
How do I get these items? • Students and faculty of WRLC libraries may submit online requests for items stored at the "WRLC Center" using the ALADIN library catalog's Request feature. Materials requested by 5 pm are delivered to the library the next business day.
Is the storage safe? • The storage facility provides high-density, environmentally-controlled, retrievable storage for books, audiovisual or microform media, and archival boxes.
