Dual Credit CHS 2011 WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT? Dual credit courses allow students to earn both high school and college credits at the same time. A student’s grades will be posted on the high school transcript and on the college transcript. Upon high school graduation, students should request an official transcript from their high school and from the college.

Dual Credit CHS 2011 BENEFITS OF DUAL CREDIT Many students find the idea of earning college credit while taking high school courses both intriguing and challenging. At CHS, students may earn 12 hours of college credit during their junior year and 9 hours during their senior year. Consequently, a student might earn 21 hours of college credit while in high school. The classes would cost approximately $384. The savings to the student in tuition and fees becomes relevant when one estimates that one semester at a public university, according to Collegeboard.com, amounts to about $3825.00.

Dual Credit CHS 2011 HOW DO YOU ENROLL? • CREATE AN ACCOUNT AND APPLICATION AT LONE STAR COLLEGE. (come by the CCC for instruction page) • QUALIFY FOR THE CLASS(ES) BY TAKS OR ASSESSMENT TEST (Come by the CCC and sign up to test) • COMPLETE THE ENROLLMENT PACKET – ESPECIALLY THE BLUE FORM • MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY SIGNATURES • INCLUDE THE APPROPRIATE PAYMENT • SUBMIT YOUR FORMS BY THE DUE DATE
Dual Credit CHS 2011 HOW DO YOU CREATE AN ACCOUNT AND COMPLETE THE APPLICATION? • Answer all the Questions, especially those with (*) • Be sure to answer the Residency Questionnaire • At the end, you will receive a “Congratulations” message and you should receive your Student ID # and Username. Print 2 copies of this page, turn in one copy to the CCC and bring the second copy to the TESTING SESSION. • Go to www.lonestar.edu • Click on Future Students • Click on Admissions • Click on Apply for Admissions • Click on Create an Account • After you create an account, make sure you write down your username and password. • Click on Continue to Application

Dual Credit CHS 2011 THE FERPA FORM FOR STUDENT’S PRIVACY, LONE STAR COLLEGE CAN ONLY DISCUSS STUDENT ISSUES WITH THE STUDENTS UNLESS THE FERPA FORM DESIGNATES THAT OTHER SPECIFIC PEOPLE HAVE THE STUDENT’S PERMISSION TO DISCUSS THOSE ISSUES. THE FERPA FORM MUST HAVE THE STUDENT’S NAME AND ID AND SIGNATURE. ONLY IF THE PARENT DELIVERS THE FORM TO LONE STAR COLLEGE W/O THE STUDENT PRESENT DOES THE FORM HAVE TO BE NOTARIZED.

Dual Credit CHS 2011 The Exception From LSCS 2010-2011 catalog, pg. 26: “When indicators such as grade point average or assessment scores indicate a student may have the academic ability to handle more than two courses, exceptions may be granted by the college’s instructional vice president ordesignee. High school students must complete each college course attempted with a grade of “C” or better to continue in the program.” Students should contact their high school counselor about UIL eligibility and the exceptional admissions enrollment.
