  6. Pre-Awards Review • Chapter II.C.2.g(xi) – Cost Sharing - Revised to implement the National Science Board’s recommendations regarding cost sharing. Inclusion of voluntary committed cost sharing is prohibited. Awardees remain subject to the OMB A-21 Clarification memo regarding committing and tracking faculty effort .

Pre-Awards Review • Scope of Work – NSF does not support • Technical assistance, pilot plant efforts, research requiring security classification, the development of products for commercial marketing, or market research for a particular project or invention. • Research with disease-related goals - including work on the etiology, diagnosis or treatment of physical or mental disease, abnormality, or malfunction in human beings or animals. (models, development or testing of drugs)

  10. Pre-Awards Review • Scope of Work – NSF Supports research in bioengineeringwith diagnosis- or treatment-related goals, that applies engineering principles to problems in biology and medicine while advancing engineering knowledge. Bioengineering research to aid persons with disabilities is also eligible.

  11. NSF Merit Review Process • Effective January 13, 2013.
