  1. Tower of Power EF 152 Final Project November 30, 2009

  2. Who are These People? Austin Lee – Mechanical Corey Stancombe – Mechanical Lanier Loftin – Industrial Adam Bonomo – Industrial

  3. Device Operation and DesignPermanent Magnate Generator Fan turns blades Rotates gears at 4:1 ratio Spins duel rotors magnets on rotors induce current in coils Electrical energy drives bulb

  4. Mechanical Aspects Carbon Fiber High-Speed Shaft Geared at 4 to 1 ratio Horizontal axis design Duel magnet rotors Single sandwich stator

  5. Electrical Aspects • 8 magnet sandwich design • 2x as much magnetic flux transfer through coils • 4 coils • Estimated to be 300+ turns each • Single phase stator • Alternating clockwise and counterclockwise winding • Wired in series

  6. Efficiency Calculations power= V*I 1.2 watts = 12V*.1A

  7. Issues • Coil Problems • Winding on bobbins using power drill • Alternating direction of coils • Correct Coil wiring • Balancing Rotors • Using properly sized wheel collars to eliminate vibrations • Close Tolerance • 2mm (hard to achieve)

  8. Summing Things Up Kept under the $40 spending limit Very good voltage being produced Measurements were very important in this project A lot of trial and error, and new LEDs
