It’s a fact that most students don’t like math. They don’t see the reason for learning math, this game is an example of how math is involved in everyday life. Particularly, in the life of Bob! Bob is a construction worker. He’s worked at his company for a number of years now and is in charge of a lot of things. Your job is to help Bob make the right choices using math to help you figure out what to do. So, have fun! But, be careful one wrong choice could spell disaster for Bob.
Bob wakes up at 5:10 am He needs to be at work at 6:00 am and it takes 20 minutes to get there. How much time does Bob have before he needs to leave? 1/2 hour 20 min. 50 min.

Bob left early for work. So, he decides to stop for a café latte. He only wants to use the $1.23 he has in change to buy the latte. Each cup is 61 cents. How many cups can he buy? 3 cups 2 cups
OH NO! Bob buys too much latte so he has too work in the kitchen to pay the bill. Continue
Bob is late for work! Bob’s boss is mad and he tells Bob he will be fined the appropriate amount! Company policy is that the amount of the fine is twice the amount that the worker would have made in the amount of time he/she was late. Bob was 20 minutes late and he gets paid $24.00 per hour. His boss tells him that he will be fined $16.00. Should Bob agree to this fine or complain? Agree Complain
Bob gets fired!!! Bob’s boss called him and told him that he just couldn’t have employees thinking they were more important than the company. So, Bob got sent home. Game Over.
Bob starts working, he needs to order iron bars for his next job. The building he’s constructing needs 1,350 iron beams per floor and it’s 96 stories tall. He has to make the order using scientific notation. What should the order be? 1,296 1.296x10^4 1.296x10^5
Wrong! Bob’s lucky his assistant looked over the order or he could have been in some serious trouble. The correct answer is found by: 1,350 x 96 = 129,600 which is 1.296x10^5 iron bars! Continue

For the project that Bob is currently working on he needs to figure out how many iron beams it would take to make the edges of a cube with 1 iron beam as the length of each side. 12 16 64

Bob’s assistant asks him how many more baseball games the Cubs have left this season. Bob knows they play 162 games and that their record is 41-73. Bob should tell his assistant. 32 games 48 games
Wrong! However, this decision doesn’t really affect Bob or his assistant and Bob never realizes his mistake. Continue
Accept Bob gets a call from his boss about a new project that will pay Bob’s company 4 million dollars. His Boss wants to know if they will profit more than 1 million dollars from it. The raw materials will cost $750,000. It will take 100,000 man hours at $17 per hour and another 15% of these original costs to cover additional costs. Should Bob tell his boss to accept or reject the offer? Reject

Bob’s daughter will be attending college the following year and is planning on going to school for $11,000 per year for 4 years.
