Surah al Baqarah Ayahs 189 – 196
Ayah 189 They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the new moons. Say, "They are measurements of time for the people and for Hajj." And it is not righteousness to enter houses from the back, but righteousness is [in] one who fears Allah. And enter houses from their doors. And fear Allah that you may succeed.
Types of Questions Yusuf Islahi’s Example
قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ
وَلَيْسَ الْبِرُّ بِأَنْ تَأْتُوْا الْبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا Don’t make Deen Hard!
وَأْتُواْ الْبُيُوتَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا Very Good Principle for a Simple and Successful Life
وَاتَّقُواْ اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ Do something from Bir which you have never done before!
Ayah 190 Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.
وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
Reason for this Command أُذِنَ لِلَّذِينَ يُقَاتَلُونَ بِأَنَّهُمْ ظُلِمُواَ Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. Surah al Hajj:39
Ayah 191 And kill them wherever you overtake them and expel them from wherever they have expelled you, and fitnah is worse than killing. And do not fight them at al-Masjid al- Haram until they fight you there. But if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.
Think! Why do people fight? Reasons of Wars in the World? But What’s the ONLY Reason of fighting in Islam? `
وَالْفِتْنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ
فَإِنِ انتَهَوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ And if they cease, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Mercy of Allah Look at the mercy of Allah - if we cease from our wrongdoing, then we will be forgiven, our sins would be wiped. War is only at the time of need and to free people from mental enslavement.
Ayah 193 Fight them until there is no [more] fitnah and [until] worship is [acknowledged to be] for Allah. But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.
Ayah 194 [Fighting in] the sacred month is for [aggression committed in] the sacred month, and for [all] violations is legal retribution. So whoever has assaulted you, then assault him in the same way that he has assaulted you. And fear Allah and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.
الشَّهْرُ الْحَرَامُ بِالشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ
فَمَنِ اعْتَدَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَاعْتَدُواْ عَلَيْهِ بِمِثْلِ مَا اعْتَدَى عَلَيْكُمْ Same Way Don’t Exceed Fear Allah • Dont initiate aggression • If someone harms u, take revenge/qisas • If someone harms u, dont exceed in taking revenge Example of Daako – burnt alive
Ayah 195 And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.
وَأَنفِقُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
وَلاَ تُلْقُواْ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ
وَلاَ تُلْقُواْ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ Not spending in the way of Allah is like throwing yourself in destruction
وَأَحْسِنُواْ Even If they Don’t
When we spend on... How will you benefit? When you spend on relatives? -> Better ties. When you spend on your family? You feel happy. => When you spend on the propagation of Deen. What will be the result? People’s behavior will change, the whole society will become beautiful. If every single person starts fearing Allah, then there would be so much peace. This will only happen when people recognize Allah, they understand the reality of this life. And for this it is necessary to educate the masses. But if we do not spend in this cause, then the loss will eventually come back to us.
Better for Us “By Allah even if Allah guides a single person through you, that would be much better for you than a whole lot of red camels (a costly species of camels)” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Reward is Great مَّثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِّ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِي كُلِّ سُنبُلَةٍ مِّئَةُ حَبَّةٍ وَاللهُّ يُضَاعِفُ لمِن يَشَاءُ وَاللهُّ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allāh multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.[al-Baqarah: 261]
We should analyze ourselves! How much of it do we spend in an Islamic cause? How much do we set aside just for the cause of Allah? How much do we spend in the promotion of Deen?
Ayah 196 And complete the Hajj and 'umrah for Allah . But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter. And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice. And when you are secure, then whoever performs 'umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. Those are ten complete [days]. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Haram. And fear Allah and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
وَأَتِمُّواْ الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ Principle for Success in Life!
فَإِنْ أُحْصِرْتُمْ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ
وَلاَ تَحْلِقُواْ رُؤُوسَكُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْهَدْيُ مَحِلَّهُ What is this place of slaughter? There are 2 meanings: 1. The animal is sacrificed in Mina - so this is the place. 2. With respect to time - The animal is sacrificed at the time prescribed - the day when animals are sacrificed: what are those days? The day of Eid and the day after Eid فَمَن
If a person has to shave his head for some reason, What’s the Ransom? فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِّن رَّأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِّن صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ
ذَلِكَ لِمَن لَّمْ يَكُنْ أَهْلُهُ حَاضِرِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ Offering a sacrifice is not necessary for Residents of Haram
وَاتَّقُواْ اللَّهَ What is the real purpose, of Ibadah? Taqwa! Because guidance is based on Taqwa Objective of Worship Increase in Awareness & Consciousness of Allah
