  1. Chapter 9 Criminology • Explain two elements needed in a legal definition of a crime. • Actusreus (guilty act) • Mensrea ( guilty mind)

  2. 2) Difference between general and specific intent? • General intent means the accused meant to commit the crime while specific intent involves intent over above the general intent to commit the crime • Burglary is breaking and entering of a house (general and intent), with the specific intent to commit an indictable offense (theft) • Transferred intent- an example would be if you meant to kill on person but mistakenly killed another. The intent is transferred from the person he/she intended to kill to the person he/she actually killed.

  3. 3) Recklessness and Wilfull blindness • Both are forms of mensrea • A person is reckless when he or she is extremely careless • A person is wilfully blind if he or she suspects harmful outcome but chooses not to ask questions to confirm the suspicion.
