  1. EducationDr Vivian Balakrishnan, 51, studied Medicine at the National University of Singapore after being awarded the President’s Scholarship in 1980. He was elected President of the NUS Students’ Union from 1981 to 1983 and Chairman from 1984 to 1985

  2. Mr Tan Chuan-Jin served in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) for nearly 24 years before retiring in 2011. Commissioned at Sandhurst, he has held various appointments in the SAF, including Commander Singapore 3rd Division and Commander Training and Doctrine Command
