Acts 2:1-4 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Joel 2:25 25 “So I will restore to you the years…
Joel 2:12-13 12 “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

Job 42:10 And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
The most important restoration God wants to do in your life is restoring your relationship with Him.
Restoration in the Resurrection • II Cor. 5:17- 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
The disciples received the Holy Spirit after the resurrection and before Pentecost
John 20:20-22 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
They did not receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. They already had the Holy Spirit within them. They were baptized (immersed) in the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and thereby empowered for service.
There was more that God had for the disciples after the resurrection just as there is more that God has for you!
Personal Restoration of Pentecost • The design of fellowship with God in the garden (Genesis 3:8). • Man was originally led by his spirit not the flesh or soul (I Thess. 5:23, Gal. 5:16-18, Romans 8, et al). • The fall of man cut off the communion and communication with God (Genesis 2:16-17).
Personal Restoration of Pentecost • Pentecost was God’s continuation of restoration (Acts 2:14-21, Joel 2). • Empowerment by the Spirit Himself. • Everyone was given another language to worship God with.
Praying in the Spirit • I Cor. 14:2 when a person speaks in tongues he/she speaks to God (The public use of tongues for a message vs. private for prayer and worship. This is the same gift in different application).
Praying in the Spirit • I Cor. 14:5 “What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.”
Praying in the Spirit The gift of speaking in tongues restores perfect communication in prayer and worship
Praying in the Spirit • Romans 8:26-27 “26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Praying in the Spirit • Romans 8:27 “…He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Praying in the Spirit (praying in tongues) prays the perfect will of God.
Personal Restoration of Pentecost Letting your spirit rule instead of your flesh (Galatians 5:16-18)
Acts 2:14-17 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;…’”
Acts 2:38-39 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Closing… • 1. If you are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit with the initial physical evidence of speaking in another tongue then seek God for it. • 2. If you are then invest more time in prayer & worship with it. • 3. Please write down questions for Pastor Mark to answer.
